Two watches from Mysuru that rethink how time is read: one turns the dial backwards, the other drops two hands.
Avarth, a young Mysuru brand, is releasing two very different ideas of time at once: Dakshina, a bronze watch that moves counter-clockwise, and Eka, a 36 mm hand-wound with a single hand.
Dakshina takes its cue from ancient sundials, where shadows travel anticlockwise in the Southern Hemisphere. The 40 mm case, bezel, crown, buckle and even the hands are bronze, so the watch darkens and develops its own patina with wear. The dial has a sunray finish under sapphire, on a leather strap.
Eka (Sanskrit for one) shows the time with a single hand, a nod to clock towers and pocket watches, over an inverted dial with an embossed guilloché pattern. It comes in 36 mm 316L steel with a super-dome sapphire crystal and a Tree of Life engraving on the caseback, in Ivory and Black or All Burgundy.
Worth checking: Avarth lists the Dakshina’s movement as a Miyota 2037 set to run counter-clockwise, but its product page does not say whether that is mechanical or quartz. Eka is a hand-winding mechanical (a modified 2076). Buying both together takes ₹2,000 off.
